hi benjamin,

i need to run an applet that uses quicktable and
accesses a db behind a firewall -- so the applet
will probably have to talk to a servlet to get the
data. can i do that with quicktable? i'm thinking
about putting quicktable into an object and then
sending the object via http tunnelling to the servlet
to get/save the data. the servlet would have to
load/unload the quicktable data - think that'll work?
or i could write an xml protocol to handle the interaction,
but that's a lot of work. thanks for your time and
any thoughts...

To connect to a db behind firewall, you need a jdbc driver which can work with firewall. Lot of drivers don't work with firewall. Instead, you can send the data through http tunnelling in the format of vector of vectors or arrays and then use the refresh( vectorOfVectors) or refresh( arrays) methods to load the data into quicktable. alternatively, if the data is available in a url in a delimited format, without writing any http code, you can load that into quicktable.

Ben
